Gavin LeSueur – John West 1988 – ?? 2028

Catherine and Gavin raced ‘John West’ around Australia in 1988.  Gavin says he will do it again in 2028 – this time Catherine as land crew and one of their children as co-skipper. When he asked, she said: “You’re dreaming mate.”

Gavin wrote a book about the 1988 Race “The Line- Not Just a Boat Race”. His summary of the Race is:

Getting there was a battle, surviving the first night was a drama and then the marathon began. The toughest coastal race in the world. Around Australia.

Gavin says: “Around Australia with two people is the ultimate adventure sail. From the tropics to the roaring 40’s. I was there in 1988 and will be there again 40 years later in 2028.  Excited!” He said: “A second race 40 years later! 1988 was a life game changer. 2028 is destined to be even better.”

Reportedly, Gavin is avidly searching for his ideal 2028 Race Around Australia multihull.

Gavin offers his favorite quote:

All men dream: but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake up in the day to find it was vanity, but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dreams with open eyes, to make it possible.
